Certainly interesting isn't it? Let's see, years ago before I was focused on losing weight, I worked with a woman (a school teacher) who had been on a 2 year weight loss trek. She had joined one of the Jenny Craig's of the world to get started and then tapered herself down to her own food intake and weight loss program designed by herself based on what she learned about herself during her initial membership time. At one point, she hit a plateau that no amount of calorie counting, portion control, combination of different foods at different times could seem to impact. Guess what she did to break the plateau!?! She INCREASED her daily intake of water and after 10 days, she broke the plateau upon reaching a 1 gallon of water per day intake! Mind you, at this time, she was in a size 6 which for her was still a bit overweight because she is a very short, petite woman. Within the next 6 months she reached her medically stated ideal weight goal and was in a size 0-2 which is where she needed to be. This was not a young woman bent on a fad. This was a woman in her late fifties determined to get a handle on her health status in order to live a healthy life. If you knew her, you would have thought that she would float away trying to down 1 gallon of water each day! But, it worked.

I have to say that I also have been on a weight loss/maintenance program for the last 3 years. I have gone from a size 20 to a size 8! Size 6 here I come! Diet coke is one of the things I just could not give up. (Although, I will say that one December I was ill with a cold and couldn't stand the taste and lost 6 pounds that month ... it must have been the stress I endured not being able to imbibe my fav drink!) I do KNOW and BELIEVE that increasing my water intake definitely impacts my overall health and my weight loss. I am finally at a point where I am ready and, it appears, able to do w/out my caffein free diet coke --- a bit sad --- but it has now been 7+ days since I've had one. I'm drinking lots of water. I do notice that my lips are no longer dry. My cuticles are settling down. I think, no, I know, the diet coke was dehydrating me. Actually, anything with caffeine will do that.

Well, I didn't mean to be so long-winded. I just really agree that whoever says water doesn't make that much or any difference is out to lunch! And, I'm admitting that I did use diet coke to squelch my appetite...it's why I had to switch to caffeine free -- i was drinking too many per day and had some negative side effects from too much caffeine. I am glad though that I've finally reached the point where I'm done with the soda! I still like my caffeine free coffee w/hazelnut cream though...and, like Mandy has taught me...half & half is really good in that mix! A little indulgence to keep the balance!
